Writing assignment #3 (WA3): Read the  Black Panthers' Party Platform (1966) and the  Redstockings Manifesto (1969) and then, using the textbook for context, write a 2-3 page short essay (a 500-700 word, standard 5-paragraph essay is fine )  comparing and contrasting the movements for Women's Liberation and Black Power in the 1960s. Why did these movements emerge by the late 1960s? What do these documents and the movements that spawned them have in common? How do their aims differ? 

It is required to quote or cite  Give Me Liberty!  in discussing the larger historical context of the 1960s, noting the page number you quote or paraphrase from at the end of the sentence like this ( Give Me Liberty!, 1022).

When you quote or cite the primary sources just write (Redstockings) or (BPP) at the end of the sentence.

Begin with a thesis statement and an introduction paragraph and end with a concluding statement and paragraph. Your introduction paragraph should discuss the larger historical context of the 1960s and its social movements, particularly feminism, Civil Rights, and Black Power. Your conclusion should restate the points you already made and speak to these groups' larger significance.
